quiet here

There have been some wonderful shifts in our lives of late which might mean things end up being a little quiet here at woodbird; unlike my friend Danielle, who has quit teaching in order to write, I having given up my ounces of free time in order to teach. I am currently adjunct faculty at Union Institute & University, mentoring the independent studies of four amazing and courageous students.

We'll see how this all pans out, but for now, if you don't hear from me often the reason is that I'm either busy teaching, planning, cleaning the house, reconnecting with my phenomenal children or taking a romp through the woods and trees and fields outside my door. There are so many ways to give in this world. Sometimes we have to experiment to find the way(s) that fit us best.

On another note, my essay "Sugaring," published in Orion last spring, can now be read online, just in case you missed it or mud season or both.

    1. Oh yes indeed...reciprocity & receiving! (As you well know.)

  2. Will you please keep us posted (in snippets & dabs) on your teaching endeavors? I am envious--a courageous & altogether exciting leap towards all kinds of possibilities. I just read Sugaring & will most likely read it again in the next few minutes. Thank you! Now my mind is consumed with the perfect combination of whiskey & maple syrup...!

    1. Since we make it with hot sap (kind of halfway between sap & syrup) it's more like a hot toddy made with maple syrup...have fun with the experimentation! And yes, altogether exciting.

  4. Found your blog! Hells yes.

Loved the Sugaring essay. So deliciously embodied. Loved visiting with your man and your luminous children. Nico adored Avah. Loved dreaming that we might someday live close.

Lying here next to eliz. We're thinking of your warm world and heart.

  6. Very best wishes to you in your new job, it sounds exciting and like the others, I hope to read your blog when you can find the time although I'm sure you're going to be very busy! Just read 'Sugaring' and loved it- wonderful imagery, all the very best of human nature and nature tangled up together, gorgeous.

  7. Haha! Oh, the ebb and flow. Congrats on the teaching gig. Actually, mentoring four students sounds delightful. Funny, I spent the whole day confronting the reality that I will likely be teaching again soon, but in what capacity, I do not yet know. Throw us a few postcards on woodbird when you are able; I don't like when this blog gets too quiet. Oh! I'm also reading Mink River and loving it. Wrote a quick post about it yesterday. Love to you, Robin.
